New Zealand Prime Minister: The Chinese market provides continuous opportunities for New Zealand

The China Business Summit 2025 was held in Auckland, New Zealand on the 18th local time. In his keynote speech at the summit, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Laxon said that bilateral trade between New Zealand and China has developed rapidly, with more than 20% of New Zealand’s exports sold to China, and the Chinese market provides continuous opportunities for New Zealand.

The theme of this conference is “Seizing Opportunities in Global Uncertainty”. Laxon introduced his recent visit to China with a delegation and reiterated the importance of New Zealand-China trade relations. Laxon also said that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, the world’s second largest economy and an important participant in international cooperation, China’s influence cannot be ignored.

Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand Wang Xiaolong said that as the China-New Zealand comprehensive strategic partnership opens its second decade, China is willing to work closely with New Zealand to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, promote bilateral relations to a new level, better benefit the people of the two countries, and inject more stability and certainty into the turbulent world.

Representatives from all walks of life in New Zealand attending the meeting actively look forward to the prospects of cooperation between the two countries. Richard Allen, an executive of New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra, said the company has deep roots in the Chinese market and has extensive business in China, “and none of this would be possible without the solid relationship between New Zealand and China as a foundation.”
